Simplicity 3881 is a wonderful half circle skirt that I have made a few times in the past. It is a great style for the pear shaped among us, as it is fitted at the waist and then flares out smoothly over the hip. Not only that, but it goes together quickly – front piece, back piece, zipper and waistband – instant gratification sewing!
For this version, I chose a yellow linen that has a brown and blue plaid pattern. The trickiest part was matching the plaid at the side seams, but with some careful cutting and pinning, it was a breeze. After construction, the skirt was allowed to hang for two days so the bias cut portions of the fabric would relax. Then, I used a tape measure to measure down equally all around the skirt and hemmed it level to the ground.

Oooh that looks beautiful, congrats! I love instant gratification sewing, but at the moment I’ve only made one skirt, so my instant gratification comes from bags & tiny accessories
I dug through my stash last night because of this skirt.
I can’t find what I want though, to make a circle/half circle skirt of my own! I’d love to have one for prom though, I’ve got those new petticoats to throw on under one and when ELSE would I have the opportunity to glam it up like that?!
I just love this style of skirt too. This looks lovely on you!
